You will not know if a frame is good until later

Whether a frame is usable is decided on a screen, after the dive. The histogram catches most overexposure in the water, but a chart that slid, a chart half out of frame, or a chart that sat on a bump shows itself only when the image is looked at. This is unavoidable, so it is planned for instead: at least three frames at each photo point, with the charts re-seated between them.

Re-seating is the point, not a detail. Three frames shot in a burst from one placement all share whatever was wrong with that placement. Three independent placements give three independent chances.

Two things make a frame unusable, and only two: the white patch is clipped, or a chart is missing or unreadable. Everything else is reported, not rejected. Unusable frames are logged with the reason and kept in the archive.
